Overview

Linear MCP is Linear's own hosted connector for AI assistants. You connect it once and sign in with your Linear account; your assistant can then search issues and projects, create new issues and post comments for you. Linear's docs show it turning a planning document into a project, standup notes into issue comments and a finished cycle into a summary. It suits product managers, team leads and anyone whose team tracks work in Linear.

Linear runs the server itself, so there is nothing to install, and a read-only address lets your assistant look at work without changing it.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. List my open Linear issues in the [team name] team and summarise them in five lines. Don't change anything.First try · read-only

  2. Here are today's standup notes: [paste notes]. Match each note to a Linear issue and show me the comment you would post before posting it.writes to Linear

  3. Turn this planning document into a Linear project with issues: [paste document]. Show me the proposed project and issues first.writes to Linear

  4. Summarise what the [team name] team finished in the last completed cycle.

Good to know

Your team tracks work in Linear and you want an assistant to read and update it from a chat. Linear MCP lets the assistant search issues, create them and add comments, for example turning standup notes into updates on the right issues.

Limits

  • Write access is the default. Use the read-only address or ask for the read scope when you only want the assistant to look, and check proposed changes before it creates or comments.
  • Each Linear workspace needs its own sign-in, and clients without remote MCP support connect through the mcp-remote helper, which needs Node.js.
