Overview

Asana MCP is the server Asana hosts so AI assistants can work with your Asana workspace. After you sign in, your assistant can look up tasks and projects, create and update them from plain requests, and turn project data into reports and summaries. In Claude and ChatGPT you add it as the Asana app; Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and VS Code connect through an app you register in Asana's developer console. It suits teams who track their work in Asana.

It is Asana's own server, and in Claude or ChatGPT it is added as an app with a sign-in rather than a config file.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. List my incomplete Asana tasks that are due this week.First try · read-only

  2. Summarise the [project name] project: what is done, what is late and what is next.

  3. Create a task in [project name] called [task name], assigned to me, due [date].writes to Asana

  4. Turn these meeting notes into Asana tasks in [project name]: [paste notes]writes to Asana

Good to know

You want an assistant to find the state of your Asana work and turn it into a summary, or to add tasks from notes. Asana's hosted MCP server gives the assistant access to your workspace after you sign in.

Limits

  • Workspace admins can block MCP clients through app management. If your client is blocked, an admin has to unblock it before you can authorize.
  • Coding clients need an app registered in Asana's developer console with a client ID and secret; the Claude and ChatGPT apps do not.
