Overview
Slack MCP Server is the connector Slack hosts for AI apps. Once a workspace admin allows an app such as Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or Perplexity, the assistant can search messages, files, people and channels, read channel history and threads, and send, schedule or draft messages. It can also create and read canvases and work with Slack lists. It suits teams that do most of their work in Slack and want an assistant to find and act on what was said there.
It is Slack's own connector, so workspace admins approve each AI app and its activity shows in audit logs.

Good to know
You want an assistant to find a past decision in Slack or post an update for you. The Slack MCP Server gives partner AI apps search, message, canvas and list tools under your own Slack access.
Limits
- It only works through AI apps that Slack lists as partners, and a workspace admin must allow the app before you can connect.
- Sending and scheduling messages go into real conversations. Start with a search, and ask for a draft to read before anything is sent.
