Gives AI coding agents a desktop workspace for projects, sessions, plugins and models
PI-Desktop is a desktop app that runs an AI coding agent on your computer, with projects, sessions, plugins and a choice of models in one workspace.
For DevelopersCoding agent users
PI-Desktop is an open-source project published by the GitHub user vastsa, with documentation at pi-docs.aiuo.net.
PI-Desktop is a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that hosts an AI coding agent. You open a local project, connect a model, then give the agent a task, ask for a plan first, or set a goal and let it work. It can hand parts of the job to subagents or worker sessions, keeps sessions between launches, and can be extended with plugins. It suits developers who want one place to run agents with the model of their choice.
It keeps projects, sessions and models in one local app, so you can switch models without changing your workflow.
Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

| Feature | What it does | Runs |
|---|---|---|
| Agent, Plan and Goal | Give it a task, ask for a plan to review first, or lock a goal and let it work | Your computer |
| Subagents and workers | Delegates work to background subagents or full worker sessions you can inspect | Your computer |
| Model choice | Works with OpenAI, Anthropic, compatible APIs, Ollama, LM Studio and local models | Your chosen provider |
| Plugins | Add tools, skills, MCP servers, panels and themes through plugins | Your computer |
| Permission layer | Privileged operations such as running commands pass through a permission check | Your computer |
| Local sessions | Keeps projects and sessions locally and can import sessions from Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode | Your computer |
You want a desktop app around a coding agent instead of a terminal or an editor extension. PI-Desktop keeps each project and its sessions together, lets you choose the model per session and shows diffs and command output beside the chat.
