Overview

Google Workspace MCP is an open-source connector that links an AI assistant to 12 Google services, including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Tasks, Contacts and Chat. You run it on your computer with your own Google Cloud OAuth client, add it to Claude, Claude Code or another MCP client, and then ask in plain words to search mail, schedule events or edit documents. A read-only mode and tool tiers limit what the agent can touch. It suits people who live in Google Workspace and are comfortable with a short technical setup.

It reaches twelve Google apps from one connector, and a read-only mode lets you start with look-but-don't-touch access.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. List my five most recent unread emails and my events for tomorrow. Don't change anything.First try · read-only

  2. Find a free hour next week for me and [colleague's email] and suggest three slots.

  3. Draft a reply to the latest email from [sender] and save it as a draft, without sending.writes to Gmail

  4. Add a row to [sheet name] with today's date and the total from [document name].edits a Sheet

Good to know

You want an AI assistant to find emails, check your calendar or update a Google Doc for you. Workspace MCP gives an MCP client tools for 12 Google services, signed in through your own Google OAuth client.

Limits

  • Setup needs a Google Cloud project, an OAuth client and the right Google APIs turned on before any client can connect.
  • Emails and documents can contain hidden instructions aimed at the AI. Start in read-only mode and turn on sending or editing tools only when you need them.
