The problem it solves

You have a folder of PDFs and links to get through before Friday, and no time to read them all twice.

For StudentsResearchersTeams working from shared documents

Before
You read every source end to end, copy quotes into notes and lose track of where each point came from.
After
You add the sources once, ask questions, get answers with citations, and turn the notebook into audio, flashcards or a report.

Overview

Gemini Notebook, formerly NotebookLM, is Google's research and learning tool. You add sources such as PDFs, Google Docs and Slides, web pages, YouTube videos, audio files or pasted text; it answers questions with citations to those sources and can make Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, reports, slide decks, flashcards, quizzes and infographics from them. It runs in the browser and in mobile apps for Android and iOS. It suits students, researchers and anyone working through a stack of reading.

Answers stay tied to the sources you add, with citations, and the same notebook can become a podcast-style audio summary you listen to on the go.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. Add one article you know well and ask: What are the three main points? Then open each citation.First try · uploads to Google

  2. Compare what [source A] and [source B] say about [topic], with citations.

  3. Make an Audio Overview of these sources that I can listen to on my commute.

  4. Make flashcards and a quiz from [chapter or source name].

Good to know

Collect the documents, links and videos for one topic in a notebook, then ask questions whose answers cite those sources. The same notebook can produce an audio summary, flashcards or a report.

Limits

  • Answers come from the sources you add, but a summary can still miss or misread a point; open the cited passage before relying on it.
  • Some features arrive by plan first. The cloud computer that runs code on your sources launched for Google AI Ultra; check the plans page for what your plan includes.
