What it does

Knowledge Retrieval: A Smart Chatbot is an official Dify template. You first upload your documents to a Dify knowledge base and connect it to the template; when someone asks a question, it finds the matching passages and an AI model writes the answer from them. You can publish it as a chat web page. It suits teams or individuals who want a question-and-answer helper for manuals, policies or notes.

Dify handles the document storage and search for you, so a document chatbot needs no database or code.

Before you start

  • dify, on your own server or the platform's cloud.
  • A Dify Cloud account, or your own self-hosted Dify
  • An OpenAI API key, or another model provider you switch the template to
  • The documents you want it to answer from, uploaded to a Dify knowledge base
  • Free option: The Sandbox plan is free with a one-time set of AI credits; the Community Edition is free to self-host
  • Pay per use. The AI service it calls charges for what you use.
