Run an AI agent on your computer that edits project files and runs commands
DeepSeek Harness is an open-source AI agent from DeepSeek that you run on your own computer through a local browser page. You give it tasks in a project folder and it reads files, edits them and runs commands.
For DevelopersTechnical makers
DeepSeek AI publishes DeepSeek Harness as an MIT-licensed project and calls it a developer preview where compatibility-breaking changes are expected.
DeepSeek Harness is DeepSeek's open-source agent, currently a developer preview. You start a local Web UI with one npx command, add a DeepSeek API key, pick a project folder and send tasks in plain words. The agent can read and edit files in that folder, run commands, delegate work to helpers and keep a plan, and the Web UI asks before actions that need approval under the active permission policy.
It comes from DeepSeek itself and is built so that almost every feature is a plugin you can add or swap.
Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

| Feature | What it does | Runs |
|---|---|---|
| Local Web UI | Starts at 127.0.0.1:3080 and opens in your browser | Your computer |
| File access | Reads and edits files in the workspace folder you choose | Your computer |
| Commands | Runs commands and asks first when the permission policy requires it | Your computer |
| Models | Uses a DeepSeek API key; other providers and compatible endpoints can be added | Model provider API |
| Plans and helpers | Keeps a plan and delegates work to helper agents | Your computer |
You want an agent that works on a project folder from a local browser page. Add a model key, choose the folder and ask it to explain, edit or test the project while you watch each step.
