Overview

Concat is a free, open-source video editor that its maker offers as a CapCut alternative, with builds for macOS, Windows, Linux and Android. You drop in footage, cut it on a multi-track timeline, add auto-captions, voiceovers, titles and effects, cut out backgrounds and export up to 4K. Captions, voices and cutouts use AI models that you download once in Settings; after that it needs no internet, and there is no account or watermark. It suits people making short videos, tutorials and podcast clips.

Captions, voices and background removal run on your own computer, so there is no account, no watermark and no subscription.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. Import a one-minute clip and add auto-captions with the smallest caption model. Check the captions before exporting.First try · downloads a model

  2. Type a short script and turn it into a voiceover with a built-in text-to-speech voice.downloads a model

  3. Remove the background behind the person in your clip.downloads a model

  4. Export a vertical 1080p version of your edit for Reels or Shorts.

Good to know

Edit a short video on your own computer and add captions or a voiceover without an account. Concat downloads its caption, voice and cutout models once, then works offline.

Limits

  • Concat is in beta and its Windows and macOS builds are not code-signed. Windows SmartScreen asks you to choose Run anyway, and macOS may need the quarantine flag cleared once in Terminal.
  • Captions, voices and background removal need their AI models downloaded from Settings first; after that they work offline.
