The problem it solves

You know you bought a spare HDMI cable last year, but not which room, shelf or box it ended up in.

For HouseholdsPeople moving houseHomelab owners

Before
You open box after box, or keep a spreadsheet that nobody remembers to update.
After
Every thing has a place, a photo and its paperwork; you search, scan a box's QR label or ask the assistant where it is.

Overview

Kept is a self-hosted home inventory app that you open in a browser or install on your phone. You record homes, rooms, shelves, boxes and the things inside them, with photos, receipts, manuals and warranties, then print QR labels and scan a box to see what is in it. If you connect an AI provider, it suggests details from a photo and answers questions in plain words, and AI agents such as Claude Code can connect to its MCP server. It suits households, people moving house and homelab owners.

It runs on your own server, with QR labels, a 3D map of each home and an assistant whose changes wait for your OK.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. Open the online demo, search for "cable" and open the thing it finds.First try · demo, nothing saved

  2. Add a box called [Garage shelf 2] and photograph three things to put in it.uses your AI provider

  3. Print a QR label sheet for the boxes that have no label yet.

  4. Ask the assistant: "Where is the drill?"

Good to know

Record what you own and where it is kept, from rooms and shelves down to labelled boxes. Kept adds receipts, warranties and photos to each thing, and its assistant can answer "where is the drill?" from your own records.

Limits

  • It runs on your own server with Docker. The phone camera, installing the app and MCP tokens need an HTTPS address.
  • The AI features use a provider you choose and connect. Without one, you type the details of each thing yourself.
