The problem it solves

A stock you own reports earnings tomorrow, and you have five finance tabs open trying to piece together what analysts expect.

For Individual investorsPeople following stocksFinance students

Before
You hunt across finance sites for the report date, estimates, past results and analyst ratings, then copy them into notes.
After
You ask your agent and get one briefing: date, consensus, the last four beats or misses, analyst views and what to watch.

Overview

Earnings Preview is an agent skill from the Finance Skills collection. Give it a stock ticker or company name and it pulls Yahoo Finance data through the yfinance package to build a briefing: the report date, consensus earnings and revenue estimates, the last four quarters of beats and misses, analyst ratings and price targets, and what to watch. It suits people who follow stocks and want the setup in one place before a report. It is for research and education, not financial advice.

It gathers estimates, track record and analyst views that are usually spread over several finance pages into one briefing, with no account or API key.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. Give me an earnings preview for [ticker]. Start with the report date and whether it is before the open or after the close.First try

  2. What does the street expect from [ticker] this quarter, and how wide is the range of estimates?

  3. Has [company] beaten its earnings estimates over the last four quarters? Show a table.

  4. Compare the analyst price targets for [ticker] with today's price.

Good to know

A company you follow reports next week and you want to know what the market expects. The skill fetches Yahoo Finance data and writes a briefing with the date, consensus estimates, beat and miss history and analyst sentiment.

Limits

  • It relies on yfinance, which is not affiliated with Yahoo; consensus figures can lag real-time providers by a few hours. The briefing is research, not financial advice.
  • The agent runs Python and installs the yfinance package with pip if it is missing.
