Overview

Cursor is a desktop code editor from Anysphere with a built-in AI agent. You open a folder, describe a change or a new feature in plain words, and the agent searches your files, edits them, runs commands and shows every change for you to review. A plan mode asks questions and writes a plan before it builds anything bigger. It suits developers and people learning to build their own apps and websites.

You review each change as a diff before keeping it, and you can restore earlier files from a checkpoint if the agent takes a wrong turn.

Try these first

Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

  1. Explain this codebase. Point me to the main entry points and the files I should read first. Don't change anything.First try · read-only

  2. Suggest three small improvements to this project and wait for me to choose one.

  3. Add a contact form to [page name] and run the project's checks afterwards.edits files

  4. Plan how to add [feature] across the project. Ask me questions first, then wait for my approval.plan mode

Good to know

You want an AI agent to explain or change the code in a project folder from a desktop editor. Cursor's agent searches the files, makes the edits, runs commands and shows a diff you can review before you keep the changes.

Limits

  • Which AI models you can use depends on the plan: Plus offers only Grok models, and other makers' models on higher plans are billed separately by usage.
  • The agent edits files and runs terminal commands in your project. Review each diff, and use a checkpoint to restore earlier files if a change goes wrong.
