Lets you pair program with an AI model in your terminal, editing your project's files
Aider is an AI pair programmer for your terminal: you describe a change in plain words and it edits your project's files and records the change in git.

Aider is an open-source project from the Aider AI organization on GitHub. Its documentation, installers and release notes are published on aider.chat.
Aider is an open-source AI coding assistant that runs in your terminal. You start it inside your project, name the files you want changed and describe the change in plain words; it edits those files and saves each change as a git commit you can review or undo. It connects to many cloud or local AI models, so you bring your own model key. It suits developers who like working in the terminal.
Every change it makes is a git commit, so you can compare and undo the AI's work with the tools you already use.
Start with the first one: it is a small task you can check easily.

| Feature | What it does | Runs |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud and local models | Connects to almost any language model, including local ones | Your model provider |
| Codebase map | Builds a map of your whole project so it works in larger codebases | Your computer |
| Git integration | Commits each change with a clear message so you can diff and undo it | Your computer |
| Linting and testing | Lints files it edits and can run your test command after each change, fixing what fails | Your computer |
| Images and web pages | Add screenshots or web pages to the chat as extra context | Your computer and the web |
You want an AI model to change code in a project you already have, from your terminal. Aider edits the files you name and saves each change as a git commit, so you can look at the result and undo it.
