Overview

NanoClaw is a small, open-source personal assistant that you message from chat apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord or iMessage. Each agent runs in its own Docker container and sees only the folders you allow, with its own memory and scheduled tasks, such as a weekday briefing. It uses Claude through Claude Code by default, and other model providers can be added. A setup script installs what it needs, and you change its behaviour by asking Claude Code to edit the code. It suits technical users who want a self-hosted assistant they can read and change.

Its codebase is small enough to read, and each agent works inside its own container instead of on your whole computer.

  2. @Andy every Monday at 8am, collect news about [topic] and message me a briefing.sends messages

  3. @Andy list all scheduled tasks across groups.

  4. In Claude Code: change the trigger word to @Bob.edits code

Good to know

Run a personal assistant on your own machine that you reach from a chat app, for jobs such as a weekday briefing or a weekly summary. Each agent group works in its own container with only the folders you mount.

Limits

  • Setup needs Docker, Claude Code and an Anthropic credential, and may install Homebrew, Node.js, pnpm and OneCLI's credential gateway. Each chat app is added separately with an /add- skill in Claude Code.
  • There is no settings screen: changes are code edits that Claude Code makes in your copy of NanoClaw.
