What it does

goose is an open source, general-purpose AI agent that runs on your machine as a desktop app or a command-line tool. You give it a job such as research, writing, automation, data analysis or code, and it works through it with the AI model you choose from more than 15 providers. It can connect to more than 70 extensions through the Model Context Protocol. It suits people who want one agent for everyday work, not only for coding.

It is not limited to code, comes as a desktop app as well as a terminal tool, and lets you bring your own model or AI subscription.

Before you start

  • A computer with macOS, Windows or Linux.
  • An API key or subscription from an AI model provider, such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Google
  • On Windows, Git Bash, MSYS2 or PowerShell for the command-line version
  • Pay per use. The AI service it calls charges for what you use.
