What it does

Exa MCP Server is Exa's hosted connector for web search. Your agent can search the web for any topic and read the full text of pages as clean Markdown; optional tools add filtered searches and multi-step research runs. The hosted server works without an account at limited rates, and signing in or adding an API key raises the limits. It suits anyone who wants their agent to look things up and cite current sources.

You can try it by adding one web address to your agent: no account, key or local install is needed to start.

Before you start

  • An AI agent that supports MCP, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
  • An Exa account or API key, only if you need higher limits or Exa Agent runs
  • It connects to the internet. Your agent will show you what before installing.
  • Free. Nothing to pay.

How to start

  1. Open your AI agentClaude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent that supports MCP.
  2. Paste the install requestIt asks your agent to read the official instructions, tell you what it will connect to and wait for your OK.
  3. Give it a first taskDescribe what you want in your own words, and check the first result before relying on it.

Steps follow the creator's instructions.
