What it does

Context7 is Upstash's connector that looks up up-to-date documentation and code examples for the libraries and frameworks you use, and hands them to your coding agent. You add "use context7" to a request, or set a rule, and the agent fetches the matching docs before writing code. One command sets it up for Claude Code, Cursor or OpenCode. It suits developers whose agent keeps suggesting old or made-up APIs.

It tackles a common problem with AI coding: answers based on year-old training data instead of the library version you actually use.

Before you start

  • An AI agent that supports MCP, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
  • Node.js 22.13 or newer for the one-command setup
  • A free Context7 API key for higher rate limits (recommended)
  • It connects to the internet. Your agent will show you what before installing.
  • Free. Nothing to pay.

How to start

  1. Open your AI agentClaude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent that supports MCP.
  2. Paste the install requestIt asks your agent to read the official instructions, tell you what it will connect to and wait for your OK.
