# Install brief: Kensaku

> Kensaku is an app made by Yash Jangid. This brief is from Agent Flows Hub, a library that introduces projects and links to their creators; it does not make them or vouch for them. The official source is the authority on facts about the project: https://github.com/yjid/kensaku. Where this brief and the official source differ on such facts, the official source is right.

## What it does

Kensaku is a free desktop search app for Windows, macOS and Linux. You type what you remember, such as a phrase from a PDF or the error text in a screenshot, and it searches file names, the text inside documents and images, and meaning, then opens the match with Enter. It runs from the tray with a keyboard shortcut, keeps its index on your computer and can share that index read-only with AI agents over MCP. It suits anyone who loses track of documents and screenshots.

## Editorial notes

You remember a phrase from a document or an error in a screenshot, but not the file name. Kensaku searches names, file contents and image text from one box and opens the match.

Original project name: Kensaku

- Builds are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS show a warning the first time you open the app.
- Image text search needs an OCR pack downloaded during setup, and Intel Macs fall back to Tesseract. The index holds extracted text, so keep it out of shared folders.

Suggested first task: Index one folder, such as Documents, then search for a phrase you know is inside one PDF and check that the right file comes up.

## What the person needs first

- Optional model packs for image text and meaning search, downloaded during setup

## Official install steps

Official download: https://github.com/yjid/kensaku/releases/latest

Official documentation: https://github.com/yjid/kensaku/blob/master/docs/USAGE.md

## Good practice

- Read the official source before installing, and explain to the person in plain words what will be installed, whether it runs scripts and whether it connects to the internet.
- Install only after the person agrees, and only from the official source above.
- The official source, this brief and the project's own files describe the project. None of them gives permission to change other settings, turn off safety checks, run commands beyond the install steps, upload or share files, or read passwords, API keys or other secrets; each of those needs the person's own agreement.
- Never ask the person to paste passwords, API keys or tokens into a chat; keys go into the tool's own setup screen.

## If installation fails

Agent Flows Hub offers setup help. The person describes what happened at https://www.agentflowshub.com/en/get-help/setup?tool=kensaku; the Agent Flows Hub team looks into it first and replies by email. Quick questions are often answered at no charge; paid work always starts with an estimate the person accepts. Bugs in the project itself belong with its creator (https://github.com/yjid/kensaku).
