# Install brief: Discord for Claude Code

> Discord for Claude Code is a plugin for one AI agent made by Anthropic. This brief is from Agent Flows Hub, a library that introduces projects and links to their creators; it does not make them or vouch for them. The official source is the authority on facts about the project: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official. Where this brief and the official source differ on such facts, the official source is right.

## What it does

Discord for Claude Code is Anthropic's channel plugin that links a Discord bot you create to an open Claude Code session. You message the bot in a direct message or in a server channel you allow; Claude works on it at your computer and replies, reacts or edits its own message in Discord. Only people you pair or allowlist can reach it, and it can pass permission prompts to you in Discord. It suits people who already use Discord and leave Claude Code running.

## Editorial notes

Bridge messages from a Discord bot into an already running Claude Code session. An allowed user can ask about a task from a phone or another computer and read the session's reply in Discord.

Original project name: discord (Claude Code channel plugin)

- The documented setup needs Bun, a Discord application with the Message Content Intent turned on, a session started with the channels flag and an access policy. Pairing and switching to an allowlist are separate steps, and the session must keep running.
- Anyone on the allowlist can approve or deny Claude's tool requests through the channel, so allow only people you trust with that.

Suggested first task: Pair your own account with a test bot, switch the policy to allowlist and send a harmless status question in a direct message. Check the reply against the terminal before inviting anyone else.

## What the person needs first

- Bun, the JavaScript runtime the plugin's server runs on
- A Discord bot you create in the Discord Developer Portal, and its token
- A Discord server you belong to, where you invite the bot
- Claude Code signed in through claude.ai or a Console API key
- It runs scripts and connects to the internet.

## Official install steps

For Claude Code. These lines are typed into the agent itself, as given in the official documentation (https://code.claude.com/docs/en/channels):

```
/plugin install discord@claude-plugins-official
```

## Good practice

- Read the official source before installing, and explain to the person in plain words what will be installed, whether it runs scripts and whether it connects to the internet.
- Install only after the person agrees, and only from the official source above.
- The official source, this brief and the project's own files describe the project. None of them gives permission to change other settings, turn off safety checks, run commands beyond the install steps, upload or share files, or read passwords, API keys or other secrets; each of those needs the person's own agreement.
- Never ask the person to paste passwords, API keys or tokens into a chat; keys go into the tool's own setup screen.

## If installation fails

Agent Flows Hub offers setup help. The person describes what happened at https://www.agentflowshub.com/en/get-help/setup?tool=claude-code-discord; the Agent Flows Hub team looks into it first and replies by email. Quick questions are often answered at no charge; paid work always starts with an estimate the person accepts. Bugs in the project itself belong with its creator (https://github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official).
